Status: Very Rare (< 5 records)

Origins: Breeds along the Atlantic coast from Massachusetts to Argentina, and on the Pacific coast from southern California to Ecuador. It rarely wanders north except following hurricanes and tropical storms.

Record Details: One record (of many birds) for Newfoundland, when dozens were reported in Burgeo and other areas of the island’s south coast in the days following Hurricane Helene on September 29, 1958.
