Tringa nebularia

Status: Very Rare (< 5 records)

Origins: Breeds across northern Europe and Asia and migrates to Africa, India and Australasia for the winter. It is a casual vagrant to North America with the vast majority of records from Alaska.

Record Details: Two records for Newfoundland – ironically both at Harbour Grace but sixteen years apart. The first individual remained for more than a year, seen sporadically between December 3, 1983 and February 2, 1985. Another individual was at the same location from May 27-29, 2001.
