This male Painted Bunting showed up at a backyard feeder in Isle aux Morts on May 17, 2017 – just the third record of this brilliant visitor for Newfoundland. (Photo: Cindy Ingram)

Status: Very Rare (< 5 records)

Origins: Breeds in the southeastern United States and Mexico, wintering south to Central America. It is a rare visitor to the northeast.

Record Details: Three records for Newfoundland – all males photographed at feeders.

2) Birchy Cove (Bonavista Bay), May 20 2010
