Origins: Breeds in prairies and dry grasslands across western North America, wintering mainly in South America.

Record Details: Four records for Newfoundland – three fall records from the southeast Avalon Peninsula, one spring record from southwestern Newfoundland: (1) Cape Race, October 5, 1998; (2) Cape Race, October 11, 2003; (3) Codroy Valley region, June 26, 2009; and (4) Bear Cove Point (near Renews), September 19, 2011.
