Calidris minuta

This juvenile Little Stint caused much excitement when it was found and photographed in September 2015, but to the dismay of many birders it remained elusive in following days. (Photo: Bruce Mactavish, September 13 2015).
Status: Very Rare (< 5 records)
Origins: Breeds in arctic Europe and Asia, wintering primarily in Africa and south Asia. It is a rare but regular vagrant to eastern North America.
Record Details: Two records for Newfoundland. (1) A juvenile was found and photographed at Renews on September 13, 2015. Despite lots of searching, it was spotted only briefly the following day and never again. (2) A surprising record, an adult was photographed by a visiting birder at Flat Bay on June 11, 2023.
