Yellow-billed Loon

Gavia adamsii

This Yellow-billed Loon, present in Trepassey April 11-3 2017, was a rather unexpected and exciting first (and thus far, only) record for the province. (Photo: Bruce Mactavish, April 13 2017)

Status: Very Rare (<5 records)

Origins: Breeds throughout most of the Arctic, wintering primarily along the coast of North Pacific Ocean and northern Norway. A rare visitor to eastern North America.

Record Details:  One record for Newfoundland: An individual was first photographed (but not immediately identified) in Trepassey on April 11, 2017. It was relocated on April 13 but not seen again.
