Status: Very Rare (< 5 records)

Origins: A wide-ranging Old World species, it breeds across temperate Europe (including Iceland) and Asia and northern Africa.

Record Details: The only record for insular Newfoundland (and the first for North America) occurred one was picked up recently dead at Bonavista on November 16, 1994. In Labrador, an individual was originally spotted in a backyard in Carwright on December 20, 2022 and (with the generous help of the homeowners) successfully overwintered until at least April 1, 2023.
