Marbled / Long-billed Murrelet

Brachyramphus marmoratus / perdix

Status: Unconfirmed

Origins: Both species occur in the Pacific and are exceptionally rare vagrants to the Atlantic.

Record Details: One of the more bizarre records for Newfoundland, a breeding plumaged murrelet was spotted by a tour group at Little Codroy River on July 15, 1989. The tour leader was an experienced birder and familiar with murrelets, but in retrospect unable to determine exactly which of these species was seen based on the views they had. The bird was not relocated by local birders over the next few days.
