Vermilion Flycatcher

Pyrocephalus obscurus

This immature male Vermilion Flycatcher was present at Indian Head Park, Stephenville from November 18 – December 14, 2020. It was a very exciting and unexpected record, punctuated by the even more unexpected dates. (Photo: Jared Clarke, November 20 2020)

Status: Very Rare (<5 records)

Origins: Resident throughout most of South and Central America, north to southern Arizona, New Mexico & Texas. It is a rare vagrant further north and casual into the northern states and southern Canada.

Record Details: One record for Newfoundland – an immature male present at/near Indian Head Park, Stephenville from November 18 – December 14, 2020.
